Apple has issued invites to the media for an event to be held on 23 October at the California Theater in San Jose. The event is scheduled for 10am Pacific time which is 7pm South African time. The tag line reads: "We've got a little more to show you."
Apple is expected to release a new iPad called 'iPad Mini'. The iPad mini is rumoured to have a 7inch screen with the news lightning connector. The iPad mini is expected to come in two colours, Black and White with 3 difference capacities, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Just like the iPad 3 the iPad mini is expected to have Wifi and the option of cellular data. The Cellular data is rumoured to come with LTE support for all countries, unlike the iPad 3 which only supports a small amount of carriers.
With the release of the iPad mini the iPad is expected to receive a minor update, adding full support for LTE and adding the new lighting connector.
There are also suggestions that a new Macbook with a retina display, new iMacs and a new mac mini could be released.
It is unclear as to when these product will be available. Generally Apple makes them available a week or two after the even. When they will be released in South Africa is still to be confirmed.
The update to the iPad 3 to support worldwide LTE will be a great update for South Africans as the current version will not get LTE from Vodacom or MTN. People using their iPad 3 on CellC will find themselves in luck when CellC makes LTE available before the end of 2012.
