Microsoft have finally unveiled it's Office Suite including Word, Excel and Powerpoint for the iPad. The announcement is the first public release for new CEO Satya Nadella. Nadella is said to be more willing to work with Apple than former CEO Steve Balmer.
Microsoft has taken a somewhat freemium approach to the Office Suite although it is not completely Free. Office for iPad apps are free to download, but you can only read and present. To edit, you need an Office 365 subscription. Office for iPhone has also been updated to be free for noncommercial use.
Office 365 subscriptions can be purchased as in app purchases or if you are an existing Office 365 subscription member you can add your iPad as a device online. Office 365 subscription comes in at R649.99 per year.
Although Microsoft has offered the product for free they still require in app purchases to unlock advanced features. The question is will they be able to sustain this model with Apple offer their version of Office completely free. Apple's office suite consists of Pages, Numbers and Keynote which are all free application for iOS devices and can also be edited online though iCloud.
