MTN has become the second network in South Africa to open up their LTE network to iPhone users. Apple have confirmed the availability of LTE on MTN however MTN were slow to notice the change. Many MTN users informed us that MTN call center was unaware of the update and was unable to assist with information.
MTN did however update their website and the call center now seems informed of the changes. There must have been some miscommunication between MTN big wigs and their service staff about when LTE would become active.
To get LTE of your iPhone 5 you will need to have LTE VAS enabled on your MTN profile.
The update comes as a carrier update and therefor doesn’t require a full software update.
To update the setting manually you have to change the cellular data network APN to “internet”
